Other teachers Hank introduced me to Sifu Han (I Chuan) from Hong Kong. I watched his class and went to Dim Sum. Friendly, open, helpful about his style. He went back to Hong Kong, but Hank suggested I could study his technique from Fong Ha, so I did. Thanks Hank, that was a good tip. I studied I Chuan( Hsing I) from Fong Ha. But I also learned,Yang Tai Chi Imperial court set, tai chi broad sword, tai chi 2 edged sword, tai chi ruler. It was fascinating learning another lineage. I’ll go quickly from here. I also studied; Ba Qua from Adam Hsu Hsing I and extensive Taoist warm ups from Kwan Saihung ( and later his Ba Qua) Gene Chen- Chen style( lao jia, he was a student of Feng Zhiqiang), the three classic Wing Chun sets, as well as a truly cool 2 man Yang set, Randy and I drove down together and Robert was there YC Wong- Hung Gar (I loved the old tiger crane set ), he also had learned tai chi from Sifu Kuo and we would occasionally do a set together, he had interesting things to say about it. George Xu- Chen style( lao jia, pau chuan) and a really old Hsing I ( 6 harmony 10 animal), I stayed with him for 7 or 8 years, he worked with me each week so I could do a decent job of teaching his Chen and Hsing I in Sonoma, we went with him to China in 85, but that’s another story I also learned; Lao jia from Chen Xiaowang, and another shorter set, and do some of his silk reeling 8 palm changes from Simu Fu ( who actually learned it from Sun Lu Tang!), wow could she move for a late 70 year old! |
